Fintech Association of Kenya runs LinkedIn's fastest-growing business news page and newsletter in Kenya. Our page and newsletter are the most trusted source of reliable and consistent news on finance, technology, and other relevant topics. We are seeking highly motivated individuals with a background or training in media, communication, or journalism, who are passionate about business, finance, and technological trends, for our internship program.
The interns will be responsible for researching, reporting, and writing on current business topics and trends in the fintech landscape. While the reporting and writing will primarily take place online, those with broadcasting (audio-visual) skills will have an added advantage for the role. The interns will be expected to stay informed about events in the finance and technology world (both locally and globally) and have the ability to distill complex information into easily understandable news pieces.
Position: Internship (Paid) Location: Nairobi, with remote work options Duration: 3 Months (with possibility for extension or full-time employment)
What We Are Looking For
- Excellent writing skills with a focus on business news writing
- Strong research abilities, especially regarding new trends in finance and technology
- Proficiency with social media platforms (LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Instagram, Thread, and TikTok)
- Understanding of our target audience, niche reporting, and the context of the news we share
- Ability to generate accurate, timely, and engaging content related to business, finance, and economics
- Ability to meet strict deadlines
- Analytical mindset to uncover hidden trends and provide context to understand the implications of these trends for the Kenyan and African markets
- Skill in writing news, features, and other content that informs, educates, and entertains readers
- Ability to identify and reach out to key industry figures for interviews
Roles and Responsibilities
- Write and publish content daily on the Association's social media pages
- Research and generate information from a variety of sources (provided by the association), with external sourcing encouraged
- Analyze financial data, press releases, and findings, presenting the information concisely in the association's style; produce stories in various formats, including print and online articles
- Present news in diverse formats, including audio, visual, text, and graphical content
- Conduct in-depth research on industry topics

Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree or current enrollment in a program in journalism, communications, or media studies; business degree holders or students with a strong interest in business journalism are also encouraged to apply
- Knowledge of social media management and best practices
- Familiarity with audio-visual production is a plus
